This week at our place
Summer has arrived. My poinciana tree tells me that Christmas is just around the corner as it puts on a spectacular red and green show. This is all I see if I stop for a moment and look up from my back deck.
We have had lots of electrical storms in the last few weeks and the heavy dumps of rain have done wonders for my garden. The bougainvillea are flowering too.
And the ones that don't technically belong to me.
And even my roses.
Meanwhile we have been doing a spot of this,
I started this little project (part of a birthday present for a certain girl turning four very soon).
We went to our first ballet concert. One very anxious little girl (with the incentive of a very large pink lollipop) did manage to participate in most of the concert, albeit from the wings behind the curtain. Luckily we were sitting on the far side of the audience so we could actually see her. She did manage to tap tap her way onto the stage for the final song and collection of her certificate and balloon though.
This is what $900 worth of reclaimed hoop pine flooring looks like.
I know, seems like a small pile doesn't it, they are long, long lengths though and we now have all we need to finish the house. The width of board we need is quite unusual and only comes into the demolition yard every few months. Fortuitously, I had popped in the day before they were expecting a delivery, so we were able to snaffle the whole order. And we needed to get a wriggle on as we have finally made some progress on the reno front. The plans are finished, engineering is doing the soil testing this week and certification should be complete by Christmas. And, we think we have a builder. (More on this soon, when I can't possibly jinx it).
This is what happens when paint is opened at our place. There is some of this,
And quite a bit of this.
Yep, that ultra cute little ballerina is also capable of body art, cutting her own hair and spilling an entire bottle of nail polish on our lounge. It has been a very busy week. Did I mention that we had a swimming carnival and show and tell all about Narwhals to squeeze in there? If you need to get a very catchy song (with a few questionable lyrics) stuck in your head I can highly recommend googling "Narwhal song" and seeing what Youtube delivers. The one with the cartoon.

ReplyDeleteLove the flowers, love the little house, really love the paint effect girl! Priceless! :)
ReplyDeleteDo you ever stop to ask yourself what you did with your time before you had kids? This place is a constant hive of activity too. Roll on 2013 - Year of the Reno!. xx
ReplyDeleteLoving those familiar trees! We've got a big poinciana in the neighbour's yard and it looks spectacular at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI will check You Tube for the Narwhal song because I'm pretty sick of the duck song we've got on high rotation currently.
You're not talking about B52s "Rock Lobster" are you??? First one to pop into my head (ok, ok - the only one). Together with crazy 1980s dancing. And here comes a narwahl!!!! Rock lobster! Down, down, down, down....
ReplyDeleteI am loving these summer storms!
ReplyDeleteIt just started raining here...the sound, the smell and the cool air!
Your garden looks beautiful.
And I love the body art!
Oh that tree is just divine Mel. Liongirl... so sweet as always. Pretty in pink. Great that you picked up the floorboards too. You must be so excited about your reno.
ReplyDeleteMiss Liongirl is such a sweet little character love the body art:) I think if my girl was a little younger they would get on very well:) Yeah for progress with the reno plans you must be excited. Have a wonderful week Mel I hope it's not too busy. xx
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely flowers and what a sweet little girl :-) children do make an awful mess sometimes, but all the more to smile about in years to come :-). Not much Summer here but snow and icy cold wind. Sun is out today and making the snow glitter, beautiful, especially with tea in hand by the fire snuggled in a blanket :-) Have a lovely week, Pam
ReplyDeleteI love that flowering tree along with your Christmas tree...you always have such fun with your kids.....take care, Heidi
ReplyDeleteyour little girl is adorable! can't wait to hear more about the reno's... Amanda xxx
ReplyDeletei so want a poincianna but want a giant one like yours!!...that pic of liongirl at the xmas tree is adorable.
ReplyDeleteAllison x
Your garden is looking wonderful,as is the Christmas tree. Thinking a dead stick might be the way to go this year at our house, symbolic of the lack of enthusiasm. Great score on the floorboards!
ReplyDeleteI do miss growing bougainvilleas. Sadly it is too cold here for them. Your floor is going to look amazing - nothing like proper timber floorboards. Loving the christmas tree pic.
ReplyDeleteAw what a sweet story about your little girl's first performance! I can just imagine her doing her routine in the wings.
ReplyDeleteThe Poinciana is stunning. I wonder if they are in the same family as the Jacaranda. I am so looking forward to following along with your renovation. How lucky to find exactly the right width you needed in flooring. xx
