Turquoise pyrex, vintage wallpaper and collaborative embroidery

There has not been much op shopping action around here of late. Decluttering will do that to a girl, but I must say I was missing having a good ferret. There is nothing better than stumbling across a bundle of Little Golden books that are all new to me, titles I have never found before. Only to be topped by four rolls of this amazing blue vintage wallpaper and some turquoise pyrex. Oh happy days.

Behind the scenes there has been some crafty action happening at school in preparation for the school fete. A call out for vintage doilies and embroidery talents. This amazing masterpiece is on show in the school foyer ( way beyond my talents I might add but oh so inspiring).

Having never embroidered before I was determined to have a go and trotted out a few simple ones (no I absolutely did not do those incredible birds, just the words). It is actually quite an addictive past time once you get started, I think I managed five in total. They are all going towards some master plan that a bunch of uber creative mums at school are hatching. I for one cannot wait to see the end results on display at the fete, even the junior school are involved with those amazing stitched hearts above.

And look what just appeared on the oval, now we have the doily tree sharing company with  the crochet tree  from last year. And it is so exciting to rock up to school and see all the new creative contributions being deposited daily at the office.

Goodness, I think Fete fever is starting to take hold. Now I just need to try and behave myself at the Trash and Treasure....

  1. Ah the fete trash and treasure. It gets me all tingly! There's always something fabulous. Last year there was a very cute 50's chest of drawers on tapered legs and my friend got a Bitossi vase a couple of fetes before.
    As for your thrifting- jackpot!

  2. Now that's a school that knows how to do a pretty fete!
Your embroidery is terrific Mel, I love the sentiment of the birdy one.
I can't do many crafty things, and my own embroidery skills are a bit sad, but I really enjoy doing it too. There is something about the pop of the needle as you make each stitch.

  3. Check out 'Susan In The Driver's Seat' - a proto feminist calssic text I'm sure. Second only to 'Bernice Knows Best', which I discovered when I spent a year in Oz - purchased multiple copies for all my family as gifts - Bx

  5. What a wonderfully creative community you live in! That doily tree - wow! You never see anything like that round here, it's way too conservative. :-( Maybe I should doily-bomb a tree! x

  8. Wow! look at the tree, what a cool school! I doily bombed a tree on our lawn - although not sure if one large doily counts as a bomb! But it's been there for 5 months now and I still love it, and still get people asking why its there! http://art-a-musings.blogspot.co.nz/2012/11/surprises.html (in case you want to have a look!) S:)

  10. That's such a crafty school! We don't even have a school fete in Tassie, sadly. Your embroidery is wonderful. And you found some treasures there from the oppy. I've never seen those LGB titles either. Mel x

  11. What an incredibly creative and talented lot (ie school, kids and parents.) The children won't realise this now, but I'm sure they will look back on their primary school days with many fond memories. xx

  13. Love your doilies, what a good idea, hope the kids are learning some lost arts as well. Your school tree has popped up a lot in yarnbombing circles, what a talented bunch of Mum's.

  14. Lovely oppy goodies Mel. Have found a few cheap older golden books lately as well and I left a pink pyrex like yours behind as it had worn bottom corners, pity. Very uplifting stitching as well, must have lots of creative types at your school.
