Running away to crochet
I have hit a bit of a reno hump. Or maybe it's a slump. That point in a renovation where you feels like it is never going to end and why on earth would a sane person choose to do this? I could whinge and moan about the endless unforseen problems that have cropped up and the extra money that somehow we need to scratch up. I could complain that living in a rental house with no landline and no mobile reception except outside on the front porch (in winter) sucks, and discovering that the camera charger is packed somewhere in one of the 78 boxes under the house is not ideal for photo documenting a renovation.
I could also add that moving house with a neurotic cat creates the added bonus of needing to wake up at 449, 458 and 512 daily to let the cat out, then in, then out again. This is instead of the cat deciding to urinate on a whole box of important papers like rental contracts, builders contracts and tax documents which you may or may not discover for several weeks. And lastly, if I was choosing to head more towards a rant, I could add that discovering that both your children are infested with nits, can only be topped by the growing awareness of your own very itchy scalp.
So instead of burdening you all with these renovation woes, I will leave you with this glorious colourful yarny image. Yes, I have indeed run away for the weekend for a spot of therapeutic crochet. To the Jumpers and Jazz festival in Warwick no less. Back soon with some colour, some crochet and hopefully a better personal demeanor and a louse free scalp.

Really enjoyed reading about all the high points of recent weeks. I'm incredibly proficient in the art of moaning and do it a lot in my real human life, somehow on my blog I become a happy less moany person which is odd. You did make me smile, but I doubt you are really, blinking good idea to get away from it all with a bit of crafty therapy. Hope the itchies have gone and all problems waved away with the flick of a fairies wand.

Back in February, I was in the same place you are...the "this-will-never-be-over" stage...and I had just had to scrape up an extra $10,000 for a roof we didn't plan for, so I do empathize. Everyone kept telling me it would be over soon and it would be worth all the frustration, so that's what I'll tell you. You may not believe it, but the memories of all the frustration and impatience have faded away.
ReplyDeleteAs for the head lice, I can't be much help, because both times my daughter got them, I totally freaked out. :)
Oh no! Not the dreaded nits...these things always seem to come at once. Hang in there, your house is going to be amazing when it's done, it really will. xx
ReplyDeleteThis feeling "the reno slump" will pass - trust me! I went through this several times (and that was before our reno even started.) This feeling is compounded when you are living in temp. accommodation. I thought we would only be renting this unit for 8 months - well it's been almost 2 years!!!! You are on the downhill run now - only a few more weeks to go. Just think how excited you'll feel when you move into your brand new house, with your brand new kitchen and your brand new sewing room. Keep your chin up!! xx
ReplyDeleteOh boy! I'm glad you have got away to recharge. We too have had a hiccup with the renovation and I have escaped!
ReplyDeleteWell I love the yarn colours that you picked!
ReplyDeleteI hope that you enjoyed your weekend away.
And that even if the reno woes haven't disappeared upon your return, hopefully the nits have!
I felt the same when were building last year - it's more intense than anyone realises until they're smack bang in the middle of it themselves - considering we did a mini-reno on a rental property at the same time was less than ideal. So enjoy running away - make the most of it!
ReplyDeleteEveryone feels like getting away from it all sometimes, have a good time. Things will improve xxoo
ReplyDeleteAll of a sudden my head feels itchy! I'm sure you'll feel heaps better on your return, the house will look fab when you're through, eye on the prize and all that. P.s Lily cat has been jumping over my head to get out of our bedroom window in the early hours and sometimes gets waylaid. I find a fluffy butt on my pillow!! when waking lately. Really need to move the bed back! Also a friend that worked in childcare swears by washing her hair in Metho, haven't tried it.
ReplyDeletefull sympathy on the reno hump! Sounds like you are at the lowest point though, it can only get better (hopefully) from here.
ReplyDeleteRunning away sounds oh so tempting!!!
HI lovely! Hope all is coming together better this week and you are feeling ok. Regarding the nits, don't spend money on expensive shampoos. Lashings of conditioner and continous combing through gets rid of them. If you do this during their bath/shower during the week you should be able to stay on top of it. xo
