1/52

a portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013 via Che and Fidel

He :  Has the most beautiful smile. In his happy place, a cave of cushions on the lounge with his favourite books. (that would be the Usborne See Under the Sea and the Gem and Crystal Bible)

She :  Reading Little Golden books to herself, most days she has 'done' her own makeup, blue eyeshadow is the favourite.

I was undecided about whether to do this 52 week project. And then my boy posed for a photo and every time I glance at it, my heart sings. This child who would descend into hysteria at the sight of a camera for three long years, who does not find his happy place easily, is growing into himself, a calmer, more focused and kinder version. It is a welcome reminder of how far we have come.

  1. Lovely pictures, I love it when they read books quietly to themselves :)

  2. Yep, it's good when something no longer causes that panic, you can breathe a sigh of relief and in your head you're shouting RESULT!
Beautiful photos, to be treasured! :) x

  4. I ummed and ahhed about participating in this project, but with so much going on at the moment, finding the time to take portraits of four seemed like too much work. Love your shots. xx

  5. These are lovely Mel your boy does look so happy and Miss Liongirl I bet she will be such a fashionable young lady when she is older, love love blue eyeshadow. I used to have some blue eyeshadow in a wind up stick version from Avon when I was little until my little neighbour next door painted her whole face with it, so funny still have the photo:) xx

  6. Beautiful Mel. I loved reading about your boy too and am so happy that you are in a better place. I am joining in with 52 project as well so maybe you'll spur me on...I don't have a good track record with these types of challenges. Fingers crossed hey!

  7. I am so glad you are joining in!

I wasn't sure about it either...I wasn't sure if I wanted any part of my blog to be a real commitment...but I think it will be amazing to look back over the year of photos.

That shot of your boy is perfect.

  8. Recognise so much of my boy in yours - both in the photo (even down to the couch cushions and would you believe the same green eyes/sweet smile) and also in the comment you made about not wanting to have a photo taken for years and the maturing/growing/calming. So so similar!

Glad you are taking part too

  11. Such gorgeous photos, captured so naturally. I've just joined the project so popping over to say hello. Was a bit apprehensive about joining at first but seems a fun way of documenting as they get older. :)
