52/52

a portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013 via Che and Fidel

He : has been very hard work for about a month. We have many theories but currently we are blaming Harry Potter.

She : is testing out her brand new paints from Santa in her brand new togs from Santa (which she proceeded to spend all Christmas day in, as you do when you are five and your bikini has a tutu).

It is with some amazement that I realise that I have come to the end of this portrait project. At the start I thought it would be highly unlikely that I would see it through. At the end, it gives me so much joy to see all these moments of my children's lives ( some highlights, many ordinary) captured in this way. Miraculously, there were only a few times where I was scraping up images at the last minute. For a variety of reasons I am unsure whether I will continue next year but I am so pleased to have committed and stuck with this project week in week out for an entire year.

  1. Love your portraits this week. Strong Christmas colour of green and red. That photo of your daughter is particularly divine. I just posted my last pictures too; and feel the same way as you about continuing. But I love your blog and look forward to following along next year. xxx

  2. gorgeous pics Mel....I didn't quite make a success of the 52 project but am pleased I took part. There is always a reason for challenging behaviour isn't there.....and ours is usually TV/ipad related. Charlie has done well so far but I can sense the wheels falling off soon....bloody school holidays!...bloody xmas ....why do they have to be so overwhelming and so fantastic at the same time!!....loved your Wooli post....looked like a little slice of heaven xxxx

    1. Totally agree about the school holiday/xmas overwhelm, we were already getting badness in the weeks before school finished which was confusing me though. He has been reading Harry Potter which I think is at his reading level but perhaps way above his emotional/developlmental level- tricky when your mates are reading it too though and I didn't want to discourage reading now he has got the bug. Hoping when he finishes book seven (any day now) that he might calm down! mel x

  3. Christmas chaos and lack of school structure and routine and all the visitors and overwhelming stuff going on this tiem of year??

Love the tutu and yes I too noticed the green and red was that deliberate for Christmas or just a happy accident?

    PS love the tutu togs

PPS I caved on the 52 about half way through and full of admiration for those who have stuck it out. Bit jealous but think I might be more realistic next year and do one a month I might just be able to manage that!

    1. The green and red was a complete fluke and I hadn't even noticed until you and Deborah commented! The tutu togs were from Target - we have a few sets of their togs and they wear really well and are cute.
Go the monthly portrait, that is completley do able and it is lovely to look back. mel x

  4. Lovely picks Mel and congratulations for making it through the 52 project. I was doing so well, but bombed out for the last two weeks - too much stuff going on (maybe I can catch up?) xx

  5. I really admire you for sticking to it as you have something wonderful to look back over. I think adult bikini's should come with pink tutu's they would hide a few things and give a spot of glamour.
    Happy New Year to you.
